Caribbean Veterinary Officials Attend BSE Scientific Update Mission

On October 9-13, 2006, a group of senior veterinary officials from the Caribbean participated in a special technical update team to explore the latest developments on the issue of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (commonly known as “mad cow disease”).  This trip, which was sponsored by the Nebraska Corn Board and the U.S. Meat Export Federation, focused on showing the U.S. system for managing beef safety, with an objective of helping our trading partners in the Caribbean understand the BSE mitigation measures which are in place in the United States and provide an update reflecting the most recent scientific information available.  The trip included visits to USDA headquarters in Washington, D.C., to feed plants, feed lots, meat packing plants and the Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC) in Nebraska, and to meat exporters/consolidators in Miami Pictures: 1 2,  3 45
