HRI Food Service Sector Eastern Caribbean Region Report 2007

This report is intended to aid U.S. exporters of food and beverage products in profitably entering the hotel, restaurant, and institutional (HRI) food service sector of the eastern Caribbean.  This report summarizes important market developments, presents a road map for market entry, describes the overall competitive situation facing U.S. suppliers, and highlights the best product prospects for this region's food service market.

HRI Food Service Sector

The market for food and beverage products in the British Virgin Islands was worth approximately U.S. $16 million in 2002.

Retail Food Sector

The U.S. has 84 percent market share of the $16 million in food and beverage market in the British Virgin Islands.  Due to this high percentage, the BVI consumer has the benefit of easily accessible high value and high quality products.  A long historic relationship, as well as proximity to the U.S. Virgin islands and Puerto Rico, has made U.S. food products preferred and most commonly visible on supermarket shelves in the BVI.

British Virgin Islands Yacht Provision

The nearly forty islands, rocks, and cays of the British Virgin Islands, along with easily navigable waters, white sandy beaches, warm trade winds, and laid back culture, have encouraged the growth of sailing in the BVI.
